Our food is as quirky as our space, with an eclectic all-day breakfast, brunch & lunch menu. We only use quality products, mind; you won’t find any packets, frozen products or pre-made ingredients in our kitchen.

There are always specials & because our customers are special too, we find they often influence our menu options – we believe in power to the people!

We specialise in vegetarian and gluten-free food, with no compromises for those who dare to be different.

Our coffee of choice is not only fair trade, but award-winning, too. We serve an organic blend from Somerset based Martin Carwardine, served as a double shot to pack a punch.

Laughable though it may sound, we make coffee with love - so if all you're after is a 'coffee machine button pusher,' we're probably not the place for you!

As one of our lovely regular customers says, our ‘food is like a hug on a plate!’
Or, according to another equally satisfied customer, we are their ‘happy place!’

Our Traditional Tea Room

Enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea served on vintage china in our unrivalled traditional tea room. We offer a choice of our homemade cakes, a Dorset cream tea, sandwiches or a three tiered afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones and a selection of cakes.

Afternoon Tea served:
3.00pm - 5.00pm, Saturday - Sunday
(and Wednesday - Friday, by appointment only)

Gluten-free scones or imaginative cakes are available. Alternatively you can pre-order a savoury afternoon tea or a gluten free traditional afternoon tea. All food on the menu is cooked on the premises (except the Dorset clotted cream as we don’t have space for a cow!) using quality ingredients and attention to detail.

Our extensive loose leaf tea menu was designed by the customers, so we're sure it has something for everyone.

Teas are from Dorset-based Comins Tea House (who personally source them from around the world), The Gilded Teapot (a local independent commany based in Dorchester), and our ‘Great Taste’ award-winning teas are from Novus.

We are Bournemouth and Poole’s only authentic traditional tea rooms (which makes us the best afternoon teas around!).

We're not exaggerating when we claim to be the best Bed & Breakfast in Bournemouth.

In fact, we've got lots of awards to back this up:

Winner of Bournemouth Tourism Best Small Hotel Award 2012 and 2013
(we haven’t entered since 2014 to give someone else a chance!)

Winner of AA Breakfast Award 2013

TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016

Our bedrooms feature up-cycled furniture, which has been hand-painted 'shabby chic' style. Guests describe our comfy rooms as ‘stylish’ with ‘lovely attention to detail’.

Rooms have soft furnishings that are handmade and upholstered in matching rare fabrics - making them unique. We have a homely but characterful guest lounge and a country garden style patio.

What about breakfast?

We specialise in cooked-to-order quality plates of delicious food, breakfast buffets are not allowed to be mentioned here!

We challenge you to find a breakfast menu like ours anywhere else in the country! Vegetarians and gluten-free guests love our menu choices just as much as the meat eaters, who appreciate our butcher’s sausages, or our home cooked 'Ham Hock Hash with chilli jam'.

'Little things' that make a big difference

Guests describe us as ‘different to your average B&B’, part hotel - part B&B, and ‘thoroughly charming’ with a ‘casual efficiency’. We don’t like to fit stereotypical labels!

We are happy to interact and specialise in providing ‘generous hospitality’, tailored to individual requirements.

Basically, if you need something just say… We can make reservations, organise taxis, add extras to rooms and generally we're willing to do anything to help! Within reason…!

We're also able to offer in-room treatments by our personally-recommended holistic therapist Lizzie Henderson.

Our Location

We are in the midst of a perfectly quiet residential area between Westbourne and Alum Chine

Sometimes even our neighbours don’t realise we are here, until they pop in one day. Without fail they then declare ‘we can’t believe we have never been before, it’s amazing.’

We are truly a ‘hidden gem’!

The overall experience of our vintage Bournemouth B&B is added to by our location in the undoubtedly most beautiful & stylish part of Bournemouth (poshest too!).

We're but a ten minutes’ walk from the glorious Alum Chine beach (accessed by the calming chine walks) and we're about the same distances from the independent, boutique shops, eating and drinking places of Westbourne.

We are within easy reach of the stunning Purbecks and historic Poole, as well as Bournemouth town centre which can be reached via a gorgeous walk along the beach.

We find ourselves popular with families visiting the universities or relatives in nearby care homes. Local residents also like to book rooms for their visiting family or friends because they apparently ‘don’t have space at home’!!

As Bournemouth has been voted one of the happiest places to live in the UK, we feel that we have no option but to pass on the infectious and rejuvenating vibes!

Some local inspiration!

Our customers call us a 'hidden gem'.

It's like all good secrets - as an independently-run business we believe in providing great people with great food, service and beds. We are here for people who care about what they eat and where they sleep when they are away from home. So you see the problem is, we'd actually love for you to find out about our little secret! We want you to find us, try us out and to come back again & again.

If we attract great people who dare to be different then our space stays great, maintaining our homely, positive atmosphere!

So we will settle for people finding out about us! But we'll also make sure we stay just the right amount of exclusive... with a cool edge.

We are Teresa & Zak, mother and son. We have no idea how we ended up buying a business together but it means we have turned ‘getting on each other’s nerves’ into a full-time occupation. We resolve this by playing to our strengths (read as 'staying out of each other’s way') by Teresa not being allowed to touch anything vaguely technical or practical and Zak not being allowed to re-arrange anything.

This results in Teresa being labelled controlling (whilst allegedly pretending to Zak he has a 50/50 partnership) and Zak claiming he is playing 'good cop' to her 'bad cop'.

The one thing we do agree on is, that to be fair although the customer is not always right, they are certainly the most important aspect of our business. In short – we aim to please (just not each other, as some mountains are just too high to climb).

Peter our chef took some persuading to have this photo taken after a day of cooking but eventually agreed because 'you can't smell him through the Internet'.

You also can't see, that despite him being incredibly light on his feet, he is incapable of moving away from hot objects (but has been a chef for 25 years!). This makes for an array of dramatic movements and sounds throughout the day. Making us wonder if an animal has climbed in through the window.

Peter claims his speciality is 'fusion' food, or as we prefer to call it 'conFUSION' food, due to the fact he is incapable of writing a shopping list. Luckily, his specials evolve from conception to completion, whilst still having 'The Living Room X Factor' - which is more than can be said for his dramatic moves.

Holly is the team member responsible for working between the café & kitchen. Imagine a pinball machine; she is the ball. To her, the winning target is to drop down the hole and bake cakes. To Peter the chef, his primary objective is to use the ‘bumpers’ pushing her towards the washing up and flour.(Apparently only girls touch flour.) But Teresa and Zak aim to ‘flip’ Holly propelling her towards the unpredictable world of serving the customers.
Holly is laid back, but does manage to draw the line at us ‘nudging’ her - as the tactic used when pushing the pinball cabinet.
Holly must be sad – she thought pinball was just a game. She probably secretly wishes she trained to be a Vet as her mum had hoped. She may have come to realise that constantly seeing hurt animals wasn’t so bad after all.
